About 3,600 new autorickshaws fitted with GPS-enabled fare meters were plying on city roads, the Delhi government said on Thursday.

Delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami said autorickshaw dealers had been asked to submit a daily report on bookings, sales and stock.

"A review meeting on issues related to the purchase of autorickshaws was held recently. I have instructed the department officials to ensure that all autorickshaw dealers submit their daily report on bookings, sales and stock. Show-cause notices were issued to nine dealers as they had failed to submit the reports, following which they have furnished the information,'' Goswami said.

He said the non-compliance of the instructions would be taken seriously and strict action would be taken against autorickshaw dealers who do not submit daily reports.

"The department has been asked to take immediate action in case of a complaint regarding difficulties in the purchase of autorickshaws," he said.

Refuting reports that the department was only giving out permits to 10,000 autorickshaws, Goswami said it has not put any restriction on the number of permits to be given.

On August 13, the transport department had issued a notice to start the process of issuing permits to 45,000 new autorickshaws after the Supreme Court removed the cap of 55,000 autorickshsaws in Delhi.
