A three-day Gandhi Jayanti Mela (fair) organised by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) at Pragati Maidan to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi concluded on Sunday.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit attended the function, which had a Kathak performance by Uma Sharma. Singer Shubha Mudgal and Daler Mehendi had performed on the previous two days.
Dikshit urged the MCD to organise the fair on a bigger scale next year when a lot of tourists would be in the city for the Commonwealth Games.
“It would be a great opportunity to show case Gandhiji's values,” she said.
The MCD used this opportunity showcase its new projects to the public. It included Commonwealth Games related projects, G2C kiosks — MCD Aapke Dwar — and door-to-door collection of garbage among other things.
