Delhi Police have arrested one person and apprehended two juveniles involved in robbing a businessman’s house in Model Town on Sunday.
Police said five persons were involved in the robbery, of which three were working at the victim’s house as domestic helps and were not verified.
On early Monday morning, an autorickshaw was stopped for routine checking. “The three passengers immediately jumped out of the auto, and ran off after throwing a polybag containing house breaking equipment at the police personnel,” said Romil Baaniya, DCP (northwest).
The police staff chased after them, and managed to catch hold of one of them who was later identified as Arun Chopal.
The other two accused, who were in the auto, were also apprehended later.
“They were found to be in possession of valuable items such as a wrist watch, a diamond ring, a gold ring and R1.68 lakh in cash. They were detained and during interrogation they confessed to their involvement in the robbery,” Baaniya added.
During interrogation, Chopal revealed that he along with his associate Shatrughan, had committed a dacoity in E-block Model Town, along with the domestic helps.
“At around 4am on Sunday, when the house owner Suresh Kumar Gupta was out of station with his family, they burgled his house. When a relative of Gupta resisted, they robbed him of his belongings at knife-point,” he further said.
They also stole the house owner’s car.
