Three persons, including a bookie, were arrested for allegedly attempting to murder a property dealer in the outer Delhi district earlier this month, with enmity over distribution of cricket betting money a reason for the attempt.
Police arrested Ombir Rana, 21, Dinesh, 19 and Sandeep, 27 for trying to kill Mukesh, a property dealer and resident of Barwala.
Mukesh had on June 6 registered a case with the police, complaining that Sandeep, who was his partner in a cricket betting ring two years back, had tried to kill him along with two of his accomplices.
He said while Ombir had struck a lathi blow on his head and Sandeep opened several rounds fire on him, he had managed to escape.
Following investigation, police located the three persons and found that Dinesh and Mukesh were on bad terms for the last two years over the division of betting money, and that Dinesh feared contract killing.
The three were arrested on June 26 in Rohini.
Sandeep is a bookie and a revolver with two live cartridges were recovered from his possession. A katta with one live cartridge was also recovered from Dinesh.
A 55-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a gang of assailants at her residence in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony area and is lodged in the ICU of VIMHANS, police said.
The victim, Saroj, was alone at her residence when the incident took place. “She was found unconscious with bruises all over her body. We have not taken a statement from her as she is lodged in the ICU and in no position to speak. We will lodge a case after we take her statement. Prima facie the motive could be robbery,” said a police officer.
