Three youths, including a girl, were injured when their Chevrolet Cruze car rammed into a tree near Sunder Nagar traffic light around 3am on Friday. The three were rushed to AIIMS trauma centre. One of the three is critical.
Police said the car had been speeding. The trio was going to Chittaranjan Park from a five-star hotel in New Delhi. The three have been identified as Satendra Gupta (31), a resident of Green Park; Shruti Sodhi (29), a resident of Alaknanda; and Aditya Kundu (28), a CR Park resident.
“They were returning from a party. Around 3.12am, soon after crossing the Sunder Nagar traffic light, their speeding car rammed into a tree. We had to use gas cutters to rescue them,” a senior police officer said.
Police said the victims have been unable to tell the reason behind the accident as Gupta, who was driving, lost control over the car completely. “The right side of the car rammed into the tree. The sequence of events suggests that the car overturned by 90 degrees,” the officer said.
Sodhi has been discharged and Kundu’s condition is stable. Gupta continues to be critical. His legs are badly damaged, police said. Gupta, a cold storage owner, is married and has a two-year-old son.
