A retired Delhi University clerk and a three-year-old child were among the three persons who lost their lives in three road accidents occurred in east Delhi in the past 24 hours.
In the first accident, Praveen Kumar Mahajan (65), a retired DU clerk, died after he was hit by a speeding tempo in Surya Nagar in east Delhi on Wednesday around 5am.
“Mahajan suffered severe injuries and was rushed to GTB Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” a police officer said, adding, a case has been registered against the errant driver, who fled the spot.
The second accident took place in Farsh Bazar area where a three-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding Maruti van around 5.30pm on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Kishan, lived with his parents in Indira camp slum clusters near Karkardooma court complex.
Kishan was playing near the service lane outside his house when he was crushed by the van. The accused driver Raghu was arrested and his vehicle was impounded.
In the third accident, a speeding Blueline bus on route number 534 (plying between Anand Vihar and Mehrauli) crushed a 30-year-old labourer while he was crossing the road in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Rajesh Gupta. After the accident some angry locals vandalised the glasses of a low-floor DTC bus and blocked traffic for a few minutes. The errant driver is absconding.
