A 33-year-old housewife was found strangled at her southeast Delhi residence on Saturday, police said.
Police say, Neelam Kumar (30) was reportedly found strangled by her husband Manoj (34) when he returned from work to their Lajpat Nagar home around 7:30 pm on Saturday. She had reportedly been strangled with a cloth or a belt.
The police, however, were provided information about the incident around 9 p.m. by the Moolchand authorities where Manoj had taken her for treatment shortly after discovering her lying on the floor.
“During investigation, Manoj revealed that he got anxious when he saw Neelam lying unconscious on the floor and rushed her to the Moolchand hospital without informing us,” said a senior police officer.
“The Moolchand authorities informed us after they discovered that she had been strangulated and was dead before she even reached the facility.”
Police said Manoj works at a construction company in Hauz Khas and said he had left for work like usual in the morning only to return and find his wife’s corpse in the evening.
According to police, Neelam married Manoj in 2002 and the couple did not have any kids. “Her parents live in Uttam Nagar and have not made any allegations against Manoj.”
“Since tidbits of her jewellery are missing, we are not ruling out robbery as the motive behind the crime,” the officer said.
Police said they were investigating and that things would become clear after forensic evidence collected from the crime scene and all the suspects had been examined.
“A case has been registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station,” said Virender Singh Chahal, ACP southeast, Delhi.
