A four-year-old child, kidnapped from an east Delhi locality last week, was rescued from western Uttar Pradesh with the arrest of two youths, police said on Monday.
The boy, Rohan, was kidnapped on April 14 from Jagatpuri in east Delhi and a ransom of Rs 6 lakh was demanded from the family, police said, adding the child's uncle, Chand, was allegedly involved in the case.
The Delhi police launched a hunt for the kidnapped child and managed to trace him and the perpetrators of the crime in Bulandshahar district in Uttar Pradesh, about 70 km from here.
The arrested have been identified as Mazhar (30) and Nadeem (25), O P Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said.
"The arrests were made a tip off that the youths were looking for a safe hide-out for keeping the child till the ransom amount is delivered. We got an input that they are likely to come in search for a rented room in Jagatpuri," he said.
Nadeem, who was the first to be arrested from Jagatpuri, led police to Bulandshahar from where the boy was rescued and Mazhar apprehended.
"The duo told us that they kidnapped the child with the help of Chand, who is the uncle of the victim. Immediately after kidnapping the boy, they demanded Rs 6 lakh as ransom," Mishra said.
"Nadeem and Mazhar got in touch with the victim's father posing themselves as businessman and wanted to meet him in that connection. As per plans and appointment both of them visited the victim's father.
"Mazhar offered cold drink to victim's parents laced with some drugs. After consuming the cold drink, both of them became unconscious. As soon as they became unconscious, they kidnapped the child," Mishra added.
