The Capital experienced the hottest day of summer so far as the mercury breached the 41 degrees celsius mark on Saturday. To make matters worse, the weatherman has predicted a scorcher of a Sunday.

The maximum temperature shot up to 41 degree celsius — a good three notches above normal. “It will get hotter as May approaches. There are no chances of rain and the sky will remain mainly clear on Sunday,” said the duty officer in the Met department. The minimum recorded temperature was 24.6 degrees celsius — two degrees above the expected level.

“This is not unusual for this time of the year. In the coming days the temperature is likely to remain above the 40-degree mark. The sky will be mainly clear and similar conditions will continue to prevail,” said the duty officer in the Met department. The record maximum temperature for the month of April was 45.6 degree celsius in 1941.

The weatherman attributed the rise in temperature to north-westerly winds from Rajasthan and Pakistan. He added that the temperature might hover around 41 degrees celsius on Sunday.

Most people preferred to stay indoors and wait-out the sun on the weekend. “After forcing myself out of the house every day during the week, the only thing I want to do on the weekend is stay put. Constant supply of lassi and nimbu-pani will make my weekend perfect. I am not even going to peep out till Monday,” said Adarsh Kumar, a BPO executive working in Gurgaon.
