Five armed assailants allegedly barged into a jewellery showroom, held the staff hostage at gunpoint and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Sunday, police said.
The incident took place in Rohini’s sector 8 at 3.15pm. The assailants entered the shop in the guise of customers.
“Two men on a bike arrived in the shop and asked the owner to show them some jewellery. He asked an employee to deal with them and got busy with sorting out some accounts,” said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, three more men entered the shop and the two ‘customers’ produced knives and country-made pistols. While three assailants held the victims hostage, the other two collected the jewellery and escaped.
During checking of two-wheelers, put in place immediately after the incident was reported, one motorcycle used by the assailants was found near Rohini fire station. “A bag containing some looted jewellery was recovered from the spot. A case of robbery has been registered and investigations are on,” the officer said.
