In one of the most ghastly crimes committed in the Capital in recent memory, a five-year-old child from Nagaland was found raped and murdered in Mahipalpur in South Delhi. Gaipuiliu Gangmei had come to Delhi two months ago from Nagaland to spend the summer vacation with her mother.
Gaipuiliu’s naked body was recovered from an empty water tank in a neighbouring building. The police suspect the involvement of a 20-year-old neighbour who is said to be absconding.
On Friday, the little girl went missing after going to the terrace to leave the clothes to dry because her grandmother was not keeping well. Her father Martin, a businessman, lives in Jalukie in Nagaland
“My mother was not feeling well and my daughter said she would go to the terrace to dry the clothes. It was around 2.30 pm when she went to the terrace. When she did not return my mother panicked and called me. I rushed home immediately,” Aluna
Gangmei, the child’s mother said. Aluna works as a nurse in Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant Kunj.
“We went to the terrace and spotted the bucket she was carrying on the adjacent building’s terrace. We found her naked body in the empty water tank. Her green frock was also there. Her neck and private parts were badly bruised,” Aluna said.
Around 1.45 pm on Friday, Aluna had returned from the hospital to lunch with her daughter.
“I moved to Delhi two years ago and my husband lives in Nagaland. My daughter used to stay with him. She had come to Delhi two months ago to spend her summer vacations with me. We had lunched together and I had asked her to take care of her granny,” Aluna, who lives in a rented house in E Block, Mahipalpur, said.
Neighbours said the suspect would often lure Aluna’s daughter and talk to her. Police said they have detained the suspect’s father, Manoj Kumar, for questioning. A case of murder has been registered at the Vasant Kunj police station.
“When we took her out of the tank she was breathing. We rushed her to ISIC in Vasant Kunj where she died after some time,” the mother added.
“We have identified a suspect and are conducting raids to apprehend him,” HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south), said.
