A 50-year-old school teacher is battling for life after she was shot at by an unidentified assailant at her residence in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura on Friday afternoon. HT reports.
A 50-year-old school teacher is battling for life after she was shot at by an unidentified assailant at her residence in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, the accident took place around 1.45pm in Gali No. 25, Bhajanpura, where the victim, identified as Deepa, lives with her 18-year-old son Manish Kumar. The family lives on the first floor and has rented out the ground floor.
A senior police officer said, the assailant, who is yet to be identified, had come to Deepa's house to take a room on rent. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Bhajanpura police station against the unidentified miscreant. The police are investigating the case from all angles of property dispute as well as personal enmity.
According to the senior officer, Deepa works as a teacher in Nav Bharat Public School on Wazirabad Road in north Delhi. Her husband, Gopal, passed away a few years ago and had been employed as a clerk in Delhi University.
On Friday afternoon, Deepa was at home when Manish, who was out on an errand, returned home and went to his room. She was busy doing household work when the door bell rang.
"Deepa opened the main door and saw a man, aged around 25 years, standing outside. He told her that he was looking for a room on rent. Deepa allowed him to inside the flat. During the discussion, the man took out a pistol and fired at her. She was shot at in the back and collapsed on the floor. By the time Manish came out of his room after hearing the gunshot sound, the assailant had fled," said the officer.
The neighbours took Deepa to GTB Hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Her condition is stated to be critical.
