A body of a 50-year-old man was recovered from Panchsheel Park in South Delhi on Thursday morning. According to police, it could be a case of robbery-cum-murder.
The police said there were multiple injury marks on the body and the deceased’s belongings were missing.
According to police, the deceased, whose identity has not been confirmed, was lying in a park on August Kranti Marg near Panchsheel Park.
A man on his morning walk noticed the body and called the police at around 8:30 am.
“During investigations, it was found that the deceased had injury marks on the head, apparently caused by a blunt weapon. He was wearing a blue uniform worn by autorickshaw drivers in the city,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak to the media.
“To ascertain his identity, we have flashed a message across the police stations in the city but no one has claimed the body so far.”
The police said that the belongings of the deceased, such as his wallet, identity card or any other documents, which could have established his identity, were missing from the spot.
“We are investigating the case from all angles but it is important to know the identity of the deceased before following any direction. We have kept the body in mortuary for 72 hours after which a post mortem will be conducted and a case will be registered,” added the officer.
