500 US military officers to protect Obama

Those living in the Ridge area would get to see US commandos in their combat fatigues, with weapons such as M-16 automatics on patrol during US President Barack Obama's stay in the city.

Their task: To ensure Obama is safe from any possible terror or assassination bid.

"Leaving nothing to chance, around 500 personnel from the US Marines and Army Rangers have been deployed for combing operations, and to ensure that no untoward incident takes place," said a senior Delhi police officer, requesting anonymity.

In all, about 20,000 security men, including the 500 commandos from the United States, would protect Obama.

"The US securitymen would conduct combing operations and would be her till the Obama's visit ends. Delhi police officers would cover the outer perimeter," the officer said.
