In a drive against the tout menace, the Railway Protection Force has arrested 59 people, including eight unauthorised travel agents.
During the checks conducted by Northern Railways Vigilance officials in association with RPF and commercial staff during March 10 to June 5, eight unauthorised travel agencies were raided.
Eight agents along with their two employees were arrested under the Railways Act, 1989 during the raid, a senior Northern Railway official said on Monday.
Besides, 49 touts were arrested during the raids conducted to apprehend touts functioning in the ticketing and reservation areas during this period.
Northern Railway has launched the drive against touting activities, unauthorised travel agencies and travel on transferred tickets during the summer rush.
During the checks, 214 passengers were detected travelling on tickets reserved in the name of other persons and an amount of Rs 2,60,310 was realised from them.
In addition, 77 preventive checks were also conducted in ticketing locations such as Ghaziabad, Moradabad, Rampur, Ambala, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, Haridwar, Hapur, Amritsar, Jammu Tawi and Ludhiana.
During these checks, 23 staff members were found with excess of cash.
Northern Railway plans to continue such raids to curb touting activities.
