Six persons have been arrested in connection with a February attack on a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) executive engineer, who was taking action against unauthorised buildings in Old Delhi areas.

Police said the attack had been allegedly planned by Abhay Singh Yadav, a builder in the area, as executive engineer Ansar Alam was not allowing any illegal construction in the area.

On February 7, Alam left his office at Delhi Gate in a bus and got down at IGI Stadium to catch another bus. Two persons came on a motorcycle and they attacked the official with a cricket bat.

"Harjeet and Nitin Pahelwan were arrested from Vivek Vihar. During interrogation, Harjeet revealed that he enjoyed Yadav's patronage as his elder brother had helped him when he was in jail," Sanjay Kumar Jain, DCP (crime) said.

The police said that Yadav had called Harjeet and Nitin to his Civil Lines house and asked them for help.

"He told them that Alam was an honest officer and was not allowing him to work in the area," Jain added. Parmod, one of Yadav's employees, had helped them in identifying Alam with a cricket bat.
