Dharam Singh, a 65-year-old panchayat member, was murdered and later thrown into the furnace of a brick kiln by five persons following a brawl at Saroli area of Loni in Ghaziabad, police said.

The incident occurred when a brawl broke out between the accused and Dharam Singh at the brick kiln owned by
one Satbir Singh. The accused then shot the victim in his head and later, to destroy any evidence of murder, threw his body into the burning furnace of the kiln. We were able to recover only the legs of the body, while the entire upper part was charred,” senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said.

An FIR was lodged at Loni police station against the accused by the victim’s family members on Sunday. In their FIR, the family alleged that the brawl broke out after the victim asked Gyanendra Singh, the prime accused, to return his money which the latter had borrowed from him. The accused had allegedly borrowed Rs 2 lakh.

Police said Gyanendra Singh and Arun Kumar have been arrested, while three others are absconding.
