Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday directed his cabinet ministers to implement the 69 recommendations of the Ashok Chawla committee that have been approved by the group of ministers (GoM) on corruption under finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.

The Chawla committee, under former finance secretary, was set up last year to suggest adoption of open, transparent and competitive mechanism for allocation of natural resources and greater disclosure of existing approval process.

“At the end of the meeting it was decided that all the 69 agreed recommendations would be pursued for implementation by individual ministries in a timely manner,” said an official statement after the meeting, adding that the detailed timelines will be finalised.

The GoM on corruption had accepted 69 of the 81 recommendations while 11 were to be examined further.
