A 70-year-old woman and her grandson have been arrested by Patel Nagar police for bootlegging.

Police said Amrit Kaur is a history-sheeter and was arrested after a team led by SHO Rituraj caught her grandson Arun (25) ferrying liquor in huge quantity in a Maruti Zen car on Sunday.

A senior police officer said Kaur has been in this trade since 1976 and that her two sons and three daughters allegedly assist her after her husband died.
“Her daughter Saroj and son Ravinder have several cases registered against them. Kaur was declared a proclaimed offender in 2004 for her involvement in 54 cases,” the officer added.

Devesh Chandra Srivastava, ACP (central), said the arrest came following a tip-off. “The team started checking vehicles and spotted the car. The driver was signalled to stop but he tired to escape. But he was overpowered and several cartons of liquor were recovered,” said Srivastava adding that the driver was identified as Arun.
