Since the past four days, 46-year-old civil contractor VK Nayyar has been frantically searching for his 70-year old mother, Uma Nayyar.
She had left for a gurudwara in Paschim Vihar on Monday morning but never returned.
According to the family, the senior citizen was wearing gold and diamond jewellery when she went out.
Nayyar now fears that “she might have been kidnapped.” The Nayyar’s live in Pashchim Vihar.
Uma Nayyar went missing on October 6 at around 8.30 pm, when she was on her way to a Gurdwara in Guru Hari Krishan Nagar.
“She used to go their daily on cycle rickshaw, but on that particular day she did not reach the Gurdwara," said Nayyar’s wife Rashmi, a sales executive.
She added, “We went and asked her friends who used to go with her but they all said that she had not come there,” said Rashmi Nayyar, her daughter in law.
“There are a lot of anti-social elements and bad characters in the area. We fear that they might have harmed her for the jewellery or kidnapped her. Someone also picked up her cellphone yesterday but the person never said anything,” said Rashmi.
After searching for her and asking around if Uma had visited their relative’s house, the family finally went to the police.
A missing complaint was filed at the Nihal Vihar police station.
“We have sent out notices to other police stations and also sent a wireless message which are all part of the standard procedure and have checked at all the nearby hospital but not found anything,” said a senior police officer.
“As long as the family does not receive any ransom calls we cannot assume that she has been kidnapped but we are looking into it,” the officer added.
The family is also worried about the fact that Uma is a heart patient.
“She needs her medication on time as she just underwent a surgery. I am just praying that she returns home hail and hearty. Weare all worried about her,” said Rashmi.
She added that Uma has been depressed for sometime, as she was not doing well healthwise.
