An 80-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in outer Delhi's Narela area on Thursday morning.
The police said she was strangled to death. Initial investigation revealed her house in Ghogha village had been ransacked.
“The victim, Parwati, was found dead by her relative who had come to offer her morning tea. Kavita, the relative, found her lying on the bed and informed her husband Sumer Singh. They then called Parwati's relatives,” a senior police officer said.
Initially, the family members thought it was a natural death but while performing the last rites, strangulation marks were noticed around the neck.
“We were informed after that we took possession of the body. The relatives later told us that some jewellery she was wearing was missing,” the officer added.
Parwati was staying alone for the past one year. Her husband Ram Kishan had died a few years ago. She earlier used to stay with one of her relatives but later shifted to Narela where Kavita and Sumer used to take care of her.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and a case of murder has been registered at the Narela police
“Initially, it appears as a case of robbery-cum-murder but we are not ruling out other angles. The post-mortem report will shed more light,” the officer further said.
Further investigations are on.
