Highlight Story

Madhabi Puri-Buch serves as Executive Director on the board of ICICI Bank Ltd. She talks about family, work and life in general

Must

Have a chat with my son, Abhay. There is a special ‘talking place’ at home where we sit, because his room is in such a mess. He is 18 and often makes me feel “we must have done something right in our previous life”.

Weekend special

Chill out. No counting calories.

I eat what I like… splurge on strawberry ice cream, pasta…. It is a time to celebrate.

Typical day

From 5.30 am to 10.30 pm.

Begins with a leisurely cup of tea with my husband. Often go to the gym. In office, back-to-back meetings. At the end of the day use driving time to answer mails, clear paper work or connect with friends and family. Early dinner and a bit of television.

Addiction

Suduko puzzles every morning.

Work-home balance

24 hours a day are plenty if you have “happiness energy” within.

If you enjoy what you do, your productivity multiplies. Time is never a problem.

You must choose your job and husband carefully. Inner happiness means emotional energy.

Success Formula

ZIZO... Zoom In, Zoom Out at will

There’s no detail too small to zoom into when required and there’s no lens too wide to zoom out of.

Leadership secret

Reinventing yourself every two to three years. Believing that nothing is rocket science if you focus on it. For your colleagues ask them to climb Mt Everest and provide all the tools. Dream big to get almost there.

Husband

Dhaval, Executive Director on the board of Hindustan Unilever. He’s my friend, philosopher and guide.
