It was a meltdown of another kind.
After sending people scurrying for cover under harsh sun, weather turned unexpectedly pleasant on Monday evening after thunder squall hit the Capital followed by drizzle at many places with Dwarka even experiencing hails.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.0 degree Celsius, up from Sunday’s 39.4 degrees Celsius. Tuesday’s temperature is likely to be around 38 degrees Celsius. A total of 4.2 mm rain was recorded till 8.30 pm. “This was due to cyclonic circulation in north-west Rajasthan,” the officials said.
Said Supriya Thakkar, a student from Dwarka, Sector 14, “First there was this bad dust and then it rained but only for about 15 minutes.”
Similar conditions, except the hails, prevailed in other south Delhi areas.
“It was bright and sunny and suddenly around 4.30 pm., there was a huge dust storm. It drizzled for some 15-20 minutes after that and the weather turned very pleasant,” said Ruchir Sahu from Vasant Kunj.
Several rallies of the political bigwigs in Delhi and NCR were cancelled due to change in weather.
And at least 30 flights, including both departures and arrivals, were delayed.
