A day after HT brought to light the condition of overflowing garbage stations in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has sprung into action. On Thursday, agency workers were seen clearing up the garbage from all garbage stations.
“We have cleaned all the areas that were highlighted in the HT report on priority basis. The MCD commissioner has given directions that dhalaos be cleaned regularly,” said YS Mann, director, press and information, EDMC.He also added that strict action will be taken against all sanitation workers in case dhalaos are not cleaned regularly. "MCD commissioner will also conduct surprise inspections," added Mann.
The Thursday morning cleaning drive lasted five hours and close to 62 tonnes of garbage was collected from the area.
The civic agency has also placed orders for new machines to ensure work is carried out at a faster speed. For instance, 70 new auto tippers for transporting garbage and 35 new trucks have been ordered for dumping garbage to landfill sites.
Special teams comprising officials from different departments have been constituted for monitoring the mechanical sweeping process.
