The number one school in central Delhi, Modern is also the oldest among the top ten schools listed. The 90-year-old school, despite its age, boasts of an infrastructure that only boarding schools can rival. But the fact that Modern School, Barakhamba Road, provides these facilities on a 25-acre campus in the heart of the city makes it a popular choice for many parents.

The school is way ahead of other schools in infrastructure, extra-curricular activities, sports and competence of teachers.

The sports infrastructure at the school, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, six tennis courts, six basketball courts and a gymnasium apart from facilities for table tennis, hockey, football and cricket, is enviable.

“No other school in Delhi can boast of having more than 80 students involved in national- and international-level sports events,” said Lata Vaidyanathan, principal, Modern School, Barakhamba Road.

“Others who are not involved in sports are involved in other activities like sculpting and woodcraft, paper technology, robotics, fashion designing, photography, music, dance and theatre.”

For the last four years the school has also been hosting a one-of-its-kind community development and leadership summit for students, which saw students from 18 countries participate this year.

The school counts sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, cricketer Gautam Gambhir and writer Khushwant Singh among its alumni.
