Abandoned at sea by own govt

Hope and fear drove Seema Goyal to Delhi. Fifteen days have passed since Somali pirates hijacked the ship,

MV Stolt Valor, her husband Captain Prabhat Goyal was on. Goyal, who lives with her three children and in-laws in Dehradun, came to the capital on Tuesday to knock on the doors of an unresponsive Indian government. Till Tuesday night, she had got no help.

The Stolt Valor, with 18 Indian sailors on board, was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on September 15.

The government has so far maintained a studied silence on the issue. Apart from turning down a Navy request for permission to launch an offensive to free the sailors, it is not known to have done anything else.

Prabhat Goyal called home on the evening of September 15 and told his family his ship had been hijacked. He called again three days ago to ask what the government is doing to help, his wife says.
