In a chance recovery, a team of the Malviya Nagar police station on Thursday recovered a 7-year-old girl who was kidnapped by a gang of beggars two years ago from outside her house in south Delhi's Khirki Extension locality.
The girl, according to a senior police officer, was traced at Bhadohi near Varanasi in UP where she was pushed into
begging by the gang of beggars. A member of the gang, identified as Rajender, had kidnapped her in August 2010.
According to the senior police officer, Haji Ayub Ansari, a carpet exporter in Bhadohi , had asked his son, who lives in a rented flat in Khirki extension area, to click a picture of the girl in his mobile phone and show it to the officers at the Malviya Nagar police station.
"Through the scanning details of missing children on ZIPNET(zonal integrated police network) the physical description of the girl matched with a girl who was kidnapped in 2010. Investigators immediately traced her parents and they were taken to Bhadohi where they recognized the girl as their missing daughter," said the senior police officer.
The girl was then produced before the child welfare committee (CWC) which returned her to her parents.
A CWC member said that a couple of days back the girl was spotted abandoned and crying in a local market in Bhadohi by a passerby who later handed her over to the local police.
"The girl only remembered her mother's name and that she lived in "Khirki" area with her parents. Presuming that the girl probably belonged to a nearby village, she was handed over to Surendra, the local Pradhan," said the CWC member.
Surender during a casual discussion told his neighbour Haji Ayub Ansari about the girl who in turn asked his son to approach the Malviya Nagar police station to verify if the girl was kidnapped from their area.
During investigation, police found that the girl was kidnapped by one Rajender, a beggar in Khirki Extension area.
Efforts are on to nab Rajender who hails from Bhadohi.
