The Delhi Police are preparing to question the authorities at the Clarion Collection Qutub Hotel vis-a-vis the blast in the air conditioner that killed one man. Initial investigations suggest that it was a case of negligence.

"Eyewitnesses told us that the victim, Jamshed Husain, was repairing the AC when someone switched it on. The blast blew away most of his face and he died on the spot," said a senior police officer.

Police said three mechanics were called to repair the AC. Two of them were outside the hotel at the time of incident.

"A gardener, Shivraj (38) who was standing nearby was injured when a panel fell on his head. He was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where he is still unconscious. We are waiting for him to recover consciousness to take his statement," the officer added. The police and fire department were called around 2:35pm.

"We are examining the details and a case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against unknown persons," Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.

The deceased, Husain, a resident of Moradabad, was staying with his brother Arif at their Raju Park house in South Delhi.

"Husain had come to Delhi six years ago in search of work. We are shattered. I can't believe he's no more," said Arif, who also works as an AC mechanic.

Meanwhile, the sound of the blast, heard within a 1km radius of the hotel, created a scare in the surrounding areas.

"We heard the sound of the blast when we were having lunch. We first thought it was a bomb blast but a few neighbours who rushed to the hotel later told us that it was blast in an AC," Rajneesh Kumar, a nearby resident said.
