One of the accused in the murder case of television journalist Soumya Vishwanathan was on Tuesday attacked by one of the co-accused in a packed courtroom.

Ajay Kumar, accused in the murder cases of the journalist and BPO employee Jigisha Ghosh, assaulted co-accused Ajay Sethi with a blade while the police were taking them out from the courtroom of Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar.

The duo, along with key murder accused Ravi Kapoor, had appeared in the court around 12.30 pm on Tuesday.

Kumar, who was standing near the witness box, suddenly took out a blade from his pocket and attacked Seti. He slashed Seti’s cheek.

The police present in the courtroom immediately overpowered Kumar and snatched the blade from him.

Chaos followed in the courtroom after the incident when everybody started running towards the door.

The police took the victim to a nearby hospital for a check-up and first aid and registered a case under charges of assault.

The police recently filed a chargesheet, filed after their probe in a case is complete or substantially complete, in the murder cases of the two young working women against five persons — Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Ajay Kumar, Baljit Malik and Ajay Sethi.

Viswanathan, an employee of Headlines Today news channel, was shot dead on the night of September 30 last year while returning home from her office.

Ghosh (28) was killed on the morning of March 18 after returning from work and getting off her office cab outside her colony.

The recovery of the weapon allegedly used in the murder of Ghosh led to solving Vishwanathan’s murder case.
