The Gurgaon Police on Tuesday claimed policemen were present inside Sahara Mall’s pub Last Chance when the rape victim came out around 2am on Monday night but she did not approach them.
“CCTV footage shows two police personnel had entered the pub at 2.04am to ensure it did not serve liquor after 2am. The pub had special permission to operate two hours after midnight. But no one reported any problem to them,” said police commissioner KK Sindhu.
The police also said that 17 calls were made from the victim’s phone between 2am and 4am. The confusion is: Why the rapists allowed her to use her phone so frequently to call her husband, mother and others.
They also claim to have called the woman on her phone after her brother approached them. They said one of the accused picked up the call and when the cops asked him to release her, the rapists ignored their request and committed the crime, said a senior police official.
When HT asked the victim, she confirmed the police had called up. “I was in no condition to figure out where I was. My mobile rang and one of the accused attended the call. When he got to know the call was from police, he said they would drop me soon. But they raped me after that,” she said.
The labour department, meanwhile, raided all six pubs located on the third floor of Sahara Mall and checked their attendance registers to check whether they employed women without permission. The department would search records of other pubs and bars later, deputy labour commissioner Dr. Anuradha Lamba said.
“We went through the attendance registers and other documents to find out whether the women employees were marking attendance in pubs. We found that the rape victim was not employed with the pub,” she added.
