At a meeting with National Commission for Women chairperson Girija Vyas and representatives of all state commissions here, Patil said all women at panchayat level should be mobilised and provided information regarding laws.

Women, including educated women, should not tolerate violence and exploitation. The fight for their right should take the shape of an all-India movement, she told the representatives.

Appreciating the role played by the NCW, the President said the chairpersons of state commissions should act as the agents of social change.

A National Mission on the socio-economic empowerment of women is being set up. For the implementation of laws relating to women, the commissions should come forward and create awareness, she added, according to NCW officials.

The representatives also briefed Patil about deliberations held on July 5-6 at the meeting of all state commissions organised by the NCW.
