At the Civic Centre the only thing an MCD babu will be able to post are letters of correspondence. Reason: The new improved and high-tech MCD headquarter will have access to everything else, but social networking sites, so that all MCD officials do from 9am to 5pm is work and not post messages on social networking sites.

To ensure that MCD employees, infamous for their lackadaisical attitude, concentrate only on work, the civic agency has blocked all social networking sites and email services at workplace.

“Our system has been made in such a manner that no MCD employee will be able to use the internet to carry out any personal work. One will not be able to access emails for their personal work or use any of the social networking sites. Across the world, this problem has been found that employees start using the internet for leisure or for personal work, but it will not be allowed in the Civic Centre," said Deep Mathur, director press and information, MCD.

Most of the MCD departments have already shifted to the 112-metre tall Civic Centre at Minto Road. This includes wings such as engineering, sanitation, education, finance, health, veterinary, land and estate, Remunerative Project Cell, among others.

Interestingly, the civic agency has been claiming to promote e-governance in every aspect of its functioning. “Now that we have shifted to the Civic Centre, we will be using technology to do our work. Employees have to be computer literate,” he added Mathur.
