Depressed over losing his job, a 22-year-old hotel employee allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his maternal grandmother's residence in east Delhi's Shakarpur area on Monday, police said.
"The incident was reported at 2.30 pm when we received a frantic call from Shakarpur's WB block. The deceased has been identified as Manish Kumar, who worked at a private hotel in Gurgaon," said a senior police officer. According to the police, Manish was visiting his grandmother Bhageshwari Devi and younger brother, when the incident occurred.
"He waited for both his grandmother and his brother to go to the local market before hanging himself from the ceiling fan," the officer said. The police said questioning of the victim's relatives had revealed that Manish had been depressed for the past week after he was fired from work due to some irregularity.
"No suicide note has been recovered from the spot. We have sent the body for post-mortem examination and the statement of the family has been recorded," the officer said. The police said Manish is survived by his parents and a younger brother.
