After targeting politicians and government officers by prosecuting their beacon fitted vehicles, the Delhi Traffic police is now going to clean up its own house.

On Friday, police commissioner BK Gupta ordered all Delhi police officers to remove beacons from their official vehicles with immediate effect.

According to a senior Delhi police officer, all the police officers’ vehicles will be beacon-free by Monday morning. Non-compliance of the order will result in prosecution.

“The law is equal for all, be he a politician, or a government officer or a police officer. We will prosecute the police officer of any level if they don’t remove the beacons from their vehicles. Even an ASI will be authorized to prosecute his senior for the violation,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

He said: “We want the city to be free of beacon-fitted vehicles, especially those that are not authorised to use them.”

However, the district DCPs and additional DCPs will be allowed to use detachable red beacons during patrol or emergency duties. Besides, police station vehicles, PCR vans and security pilot vans can also use beacons, said sources.
