In a major breakthrough in cracking the crime nexus in the city, South Delhi Police claimed to have identified some middle-level officials in the AIIMS administration allegedly hand-in-glove with criminal Satte and his gang. It should be noted Satte and three associates were injured in an encounter with Delhi police in Green Park Extension.

Their arrest led police to the AIIMS link. According to the gang, these officials provided them fake medical certificates to help get parole for ganglord Sharafat Sheikh presently lodged in Tihar. "We found a few medical certificates from Kuldeep Singh alias Sonu's Honda Accord car after the encounter. After investigations we were able to establish a few officials at AIIMS were involved in providing these fake certificates," said a senior police officer who, did not want to be quoted.

Significantly, Sheikh got parole for 10 days with the help of such cerificates last November. It was during this time he planned future crimes with his cronies.
