Three persons, including the mastermind of the high-tech All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) paper leak reported earlier this year, were arrested hours before allegedly attempting to leak another competitive exam's question paper, police said.
The mastermind of the gang — identified as 25-year-old Ravi Atri, who happens to be an MBBS student — was arrested along with two of his two associates, Amarjeet and Nawal, from west Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area on Sunday morning, said BS Jaiswal, DCP (outer).
“This time, the gang was about to leak the paper of the written test for the recruitment of stenographers and clerks in State Bank of India (SBI) exam, which was to be held on Sunday with the help of electronic devices," said DCP Jaiswal.
According to police, the three were intercepted at a picket on Barwala-Begumpur road as they approached towards the Rithala side at 7:45am. Fake driving licences, three high-end gadgets and 10 mobile phones with lower specifications were recovered from them.
On interrogation, they disclosed they had been involved in leaking question papers of competitive exams earlier as well. They planned to meet one Chand at Mount Abu School in Rohini's Sector 5 to get the paper. “They also disclosed that the purpose of keeping fake drivers' licences was to appear as dummy candidates in the exams” DCP Jaiswal said.
The gang would provide their candidates a high-end mobile phone — primarily to be used for scanning the question paper, a bluetooth device, a wrist watch-shaped mobile phone and an ear phone with a transmitter stitched in a shirt.
As soon as their operatives would successfully scan the said question paper, a copy of it would be e-mailed to their associates positioned outside the premises.
“The bluetooth and the earphones were used to confirm whether the transmitted photographs were legible. The answers of the questions were sent to the mobile looking like a wrist-watch,” Jaiswal said. Atri was the alleged mastermind of the racket busted during the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination held on January 8, 2012.
