Two days after a patient's parents and his relatives beat up a doctor, an MBBS intern from the department of paediatrics was abused and slapped by a patient's attendants on Saturday night at Lok Nayak hospital.

According to the complaint filed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the hospital, the parents of the child and some other relatives abused Dr Vandana Kataria when she was administering nebuliser to a girl child. "Vandana Kataria was discharging her duty to the patient brought to emergency and was giving nebulisation to the patient when the mother of the kid started abusing her. Her husband also joined in. The woman slapped Dr Kataria and stopped her from discharging her duties," the complaint read.

The accused, identified as Monisha, assaulted the intern after she asked her to help her since there was no guard at that time. Monisha and her husband John have been booked under 353 (assault), common intention and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions). "They are residents of Gurgaon and have been arrested. They were produced before the Tis Hazari court," said a senior police officer.

On Friday night, three senior doctors from the department of general surgery were beaten up by the relatives of a female patient, who mistook attempts of artificial resuscitation for physical molestation. While the senior resident was critically injured in the assault, both the post-graduate students assisting the senior, escaped with minor injuries. In that case too police have arrested the parents.
