“My name was on the list yesterday itself and we were 99% sure about it, but there was 1% doubt. That is why we came to the DDA office,” Rashmi Khanna, a Rohini resident, was overheard talking on the phone.
Khurana, like hundreds of other successful applicants of DDA’s housing scheme 2010, had converged at the agency’s headquarters Vikas Sadan on Tuesday. Though the result of the draw of lots, held on Monday in Noida, have been uploaded on the website and published in major newspapers, there were many who just couldn’t believe their good luck.
DDA, however, was not in a mood to pander to the applicants’ wishes and no list of successful applicants was put up at their office. “The list runs into more than a thousand pages. Where is the space to put them?” said a DDA official.
Most applicants came with queries about the demand letters, mode of payment or details of documents to be submitted. DDA’s helpline numbers too have been buzzing for the last two days with queries from both successful and unsuccessful applicants. “Our counsellors had a very busy day answering such queries,” the official said.
Waiting list hopefuls
Those who didn’t get a flat also descended on to Vikas Sadan on Tuesday. There is, however, still some hope for them in the form of the waiting list.
“A separate waiting list was also made. If any allotment gets cancelled, the flat will go to the next person on the waiting list,” the official said. The names and application numbers of those on the waiting list, however, have been kept a secret.
