A trivial argument over a beedi cost a 30-year-old man his life in west Delhi when two youth allegedly beat him up, police said on Tuesday.

G N Prasad, from Uttar Pradesh's Devariya, was beaten to death allegedly by Anil (24) and Sunil (22), a Class 12 student, in Naseerpur in Palam village on Monday night.

The body of Prasad was found near a pond in Naseerpur and a post-mortem revealed that he was murdered. A case of murder was registered, police said.

During investigations it came to light that Prasad had a fight with some men in the area, a senior police official said. The police zeroed in on Anil and Sunil who were spotted near the locality where the body was found.

They were taken into custody and during interrogation, the official claimed, they told police that they had beaten up Prasad after an argument. Anil runs a Road Trusted Vehicle (RTV) and the duo knew the victim as he used to sleep in the RTV.

"The accused were drunk. While returning, they spotted Prasad and asked him whether he could give them a beedi. On this, Prasad told them that if they can have alcohol, why can't they buy beedis.

"An argument broke out over this and the duo started beating him up. Prasad fell unconscious and died due to internal bleeding," the official said, adding that they were placed under arrest after investigations.
