If you are the kind who tends to get into an argument — especially with policemen — better steer clear of Delhi roads on New Year’s eve. The Delhi Police have decided not to brook “unruly and argumentative revellers”.

“A limited force notwithstanding, we have to check thousands of vehicles and verify documents. There is no time for any kind of debate or argument,” said an officer.

Like every year, on New Year’s eve, there will be traffic restrictions in and around popular party destinations. Roads will have limited access after 7pm and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, sources claim, will be functional only till 8pm.

The argument, sources say, is simple: Party at home and if you are on the streets, better have your documents on you for any kind of verification, and behave.

Those found violating these conditions, police said, would be dragged to the nearest police station and risk arrest.

“The streets can only be safe if hoodlums are off them. If they bring their unlawful activities to the city streets, we will ensure they spend the night under our watchful eyes at the nearest police station,” an officer said.
