Indian Army on Fridya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BITS, Pilani under 'Project Samarth' to provide higher technical education to service personnel.
Under the program army will sponsor its serving personnel for on-campus and off-campus educational programmes at a 'Centre of Excellence' jointly established by the Army and BITS, Pilani.
"Besides promoting exchange of information on educational programmes, the Centre would also promote research in areas of mutual interest like safety and security, information system, robotics, material, pharmacy, psychology and communication studies," an Defence Ministry official said.
"As part of the MoU, faculty members and students from BITS would also visit and spend time at the army establishment to work on live projects," the officer added.
BITS has campuses at Pilani in Rajasthan, Goa, Hyderabad and Dubai.
In collaboration with the Army, it would also identify off-campus 'Work Integrated Learning' programmes to provide bachelor and master degrees in different streams to the service personnel.
"The signing of this MoU heralds a new beginning in the history of our institution, as we partner with the Indian Army offering our resources, program and services," Professor B N Jain, Vice-Chancellor, BITS Pilani said.
Under 'Project Samarth,' Army has already signed MoUs with IGNOU and Pondicherry University to provide higher education and other soft skill trainings to its personnel.
