Delhi Police have arrested a 30-year-old army officer on Saturday for dumping his friend’s body in a municipality rubbish bin outside his house.

Parthiv Yadav (28), a student of National Institute of Technology, had gone for dinner to his school friend, lieutenant Sunil Thakur’s house in Delhi Cantonment area on May 16. Yadav’s body was found on May 19 when a PCR van noticed the body and informed the local police. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained.

Thakur was arrested for not reporting his friend’s death and destruction of evidence.

Police sources said when Thakur woke up on May 17 morning, he saw Parthiv still lying on the bed and left for work. But when he returned home, he found Yadav was dead.

“Instead of informing his family, which lives in Andrews Ganj or the police, he wrapped the body in a blanket and dumped it,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

“We tried to identify the body but it was difficult. The body was wrapped in a blanket, which had a tag, carrying Thakur’s name and army code. Through these details we traced him,” the officer added.

Thakur told the police that he knew Yadav well, but feigned ignorance about his death. But on sustained interrogation, he confessed he had dumped the body because he was scared of being arrested.

Surprisingly, Yadav's family did not file any missing complaint with the police even two days after he went to Thakur's residence.

“After discovering the body, we checked the missing persons records, but could not find Yadav’s details there. Later, we got to know that Thakur was misguiding them by saying Yadav was with him,” police said.
