Around 2,000 people die in road accidents in the Capital every year, said the transport department on Saturday.

At the inauguration of their two-day road safety workshop, the transport department said that a major portion of crimes in the city are committed using vehicles. “However, mobility related crimes are preventable if the stakeholders of road safety are cautious. If vehicle violations are checked regularly, it can be a deterrent,” said Anil Chhikara, motor licensing officer, Mayur Vihar.

Deputy Commissioner (operations) of transport department Rajesh Sakarwal was also present during the workshop and assured drivers that difficulties related to issuing of driving licenses will be sorted out soon.
