A 20-year-old aspiring actor-cum-model was arrested in the national capital for allegedly murdering a young woman IT professional a week ago after she refused to heed to his demand for money, police said on Thursday.

A 20-year-old aspiring actor-cum-model was arrested in the national capital for allegedly murdering a young woman IT professional a week ago after she refused to heed to his demand for money, police said on Thursday.

Himanshu Jetley was caught from Alaknanda area on Wednesday for allegedly killing Veerpal Kaur Gill (24), a Project Manager in an IT company, in her rented accommodation in south-east Delhi's Kalkaji on July 28.

"Jetley had recently completed a modelling course. He was in need of money to support his lavish lifestyle and to get a portfolio prepared for modelling," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Shalini Singh said.

Sources said he was a distant cousin of the victim.

Police zeroed in on Jetley after one of Gill's close friends told investigators that on July 28, she told him that the accused had come to her residence to return a SIM Card which he had borrowed from the deceased two days ago.

"Thereafter, there was no response from the deceased and she had not attended her office. Jetley who was residing in a rented accommodation was also found missing," Singh said. It also came to light that he hails from Punjab's Ludhiana.

Though a team was sent to Ludhiana, Jetley and his family were found missing. During investigations, Singh said it came was found that Jetley had met a friend on July 30 and handed over a laptop on the pretext of getting it repaired and an I-Pod with some documents.
