The Logistics Team is in charge of liaising and facilitating the import, movement and warehousing everything, from a pen to computers to catering equipment to treadmills etc, to be used during the games.
It is preparing a command centre at Pragati Maidan to keep track of all container movements before and during the Games, delivering and collecting material between warehouses and Games Village, venues and container depots.
Almost 700 containers are expected to be pressed into service.
Presently stationed at a temporary centre at Pragati Maidan, a team of 65 officials is constantly coordinating with the Customs department as expensive equipment for overlays and other works arrives from countries like South Africa, Singapore, Australia etc. Halls 2, 3, 4 and 5 at Pragati Maidan are being readied as warehouses.
The team is working on a software, Master Delivery Schedule, which has been developed inhouse.
The software automatically fixes container movement, eliminating delays and bottlenecks. These containers will carry microchips containing information and unique ID for Vehicle Access and Parking Permit (VAPP), for security and smooth movement. That is in the process of being finished.
“We will need 75 volunteers to assist us during Games. They are being trained now,” said member of the Logistics team.
They are currently dispatching uniforms for volunteers and baton bearers across the country wherever the Queen’s Baton Relay is travelling.
