One youth suspected to be involved in the Rs 5.25 crore heist in a South Delhi locality was on Saturday taken into custody, police sources said.

Deepak, hailing from Haryana, was picked up for questioning from a South Delhi locality this afternoon after police claimed to have identified four suspects involved in the heist Friday afternoon, sources said.

Police are believed to have recovered Rs 1.5 crore from the suspect.

However, there were no official confirmation regarding detention or the money seized.

Investigators believe that the robbery might have been planned by a gang based in Faridabad district of Haryana.

Earlier in the day, police recovered the two empty trunks, which carried the cash from Khirki village after security guards in the area reported the matter to them.

Armed men had on Friday looted Rs 5.25 crore from the van carrying cash for Defence Colony's ATMs and fled after shooting a guard.

Four to five men in a Hyundai Verna car had intercepted the Maruti Eeco van carrying cash in the upscale Defence Colony locality at around 1:00 pm, dragged out four men in the vehicle at gunpoint and shot at one of the two security guards who resisted them.

The injured guard Munni Singh, who was rushed to AIIMS, died later.

The cash was taken from ICICI Bank's Hauz Khaz branch in South Delhi by Premier Shield Pvt Ltd, an agency engaged by various banks to replenish ATMs, and was being brought to Lajpat Nagar area, a few kilometres away, when it was waylaid. The gunmen had then fled in the cash van.

It has also been found that the car in which the robbers came was stolen. They left the car at the spot.
