The businessman and his three aides found dead in a bungalow in Vivek Vihar were killed between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, almost 15 hours before their bodies were discovered, police said.

Bokadia and his driver Vinod Dubey were at the businessman’s friend’s home when the assailants, who seemed familiar with the bungalow’s plan, gained a friendly entry into the building, the police said.

Bokadia’s cook, Bhola Singh, and domestic help, Anand, were in the house.

Bokadia returned home around 4.30pm with Dubey in his car.

“We suspect that the murderers were known to either Bhola or Anand. It is possible that a few of the assailants had cornered Bhola and Anand when Bokadia and Dubey came home and were overpowered by the other assailants,” said a police officer.

Since Bokadia had locked the room where he was later found murdered, the police feel the murderers may have been waiting for him to return home. The room was found ransacked, while other parts of the house were untouched.

“Expensive items owned by Bokadia are missing from the room,” the officer said, adding that the assailants drank water in the house.

Bokadia’s relatives and neighbours concurred with the police, saying several calls to Bokadia’s cell phone between 4.30pm and 9pm were not answered.

The police said that a man who visited the house around 4pm had seen an unidentified woman there. He said he was greeted by a “woman who he had never seen in the house”. “We are verifying his claims,” the officer said.

Bokadia’s wife was away in Rajasthan at the time of the incident.
