Stalls selling audio and e-books are attracting a steady stream of booklovers, who could be seen listening to bestsellers and downloading e-book buying applications at the ongoing World Book Fair.

Then, there were students looking for e-books and sample papers to prepare for their CBSE exams.

Reado, an audio book company, has put on display thousands of audio-books — from Amish Tripathi’s The Immortals of Meluha to bestselling self-help books such as The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People — both in CD and digital download formats.

“Most of those buying audio books are busy professionals who prefer to listen to books on the move as they may not have time to read.

"We have sold about 1,000 audio books at the fair, and The Immortals of Meluha is the bestseller. We soon plan to launch audio books in Hindi as well,” says Aneesha Ranjan, head of production at Reado.

“I love to listen to audio rather than to FM radio while I commute to office. I prefer listening to reading a book if the narrator has a good style and voice,” says Vikas Mehra, a software engineer who was at the fair to buy audio books.

The stalls selling Rockstand — an e-book and e-magazine buying application which doubles up as an e-book reader — was attracting a lot of youngsters.

“Everyday, about 1,000 people downloads our application on their Android-based mobile phones and tablets at our stall. Our application has features that can turn text to speech, adjust font size and style to customize the reading experience,” says Rishi M Jha, digital head, RockASAP, which has developed the application.

Rockstand has tied with about 50 publishers at the fair and added more than 1,000 books to its existing stock of two million books.

Many school students thronged the stalls of Attano, an e-book store that offers educational e-books, sample papers, interactive tests and video lectures from nursery to post-graduation.

Most students here came looking for sample papers for the upcoming CBSE examinations.

“We offer up-to-date and in-demand books e-textbooks of top authors and publishers that cater to both students and teachers. It enables students to carry the entire syllabus on one device,” says Rohan Bharati, senior manager, Attano, as he answers questions from students gathered at the stall.
