A professor of Sri Aurobindo College of Delhi University (DU) is at the centre of an embarrassing controversy with three female students accusing him of sexual harassment.
Though an official complaint against V. Narang — an associate professor of Zoology — was filed last week, agitated students, accompanied with DU Students’ Union office bearer Kriti Wadhera, met the college principal on Tuesday to demand immediate action against him.
Narang, who has been a permanent faculty member for close to 15 years, allegedly invited one of the complainants to stay back in college for personal tuition, during which he touched her inappropriately.
“That’s not all. He discusses topics such as rape incidents in class, which are in no way related to zoology. He frequently makes indecent comments about female teaches and students,” said another complainant, who did not wish to be identified.
“And if you raise your voice against him, he threatens to mark unfairly in the practical examination,” she added.
The complaints committee of the college has initiated an enquiry into the matter. However, there is not pre-determined deadline for the same. “We have just had two meetings yet. I can’t say anything,” said a complaints committee member.
“Pending enquiry report, professor Narang has been removed from his practical, supervisory and internal assessment duties of the zoology department,” said Principal Hari Om.
When the HT reporter got in touch with Narang, she was asked to call back in half an hour. He switched off his phone after that.
