The Delhi Police may be patting their backs for having had a successful year but the one case that still haunts them is that of Shobhit Modi’s murder in May.
The top brass of the force, however, claim there is a dip in heinous crime. They also say that they will concentrate more on community policing in the upcoming year.
One trend that could be seen in these crime cases in 2011 was that of disposing of a body — in a bag. On February 11, the body of a young girl, later identified as Neetu Solanki, was found stuffed in a bag outside New Delhi Railway Station, which started the trend. After this over half a dozen cases were reported where body was found in a bag.
The year also saw two terrorist attacks outside Delhi High Court. After the Delhi Police failed to investigate them properly, both cases were transferred to National Investigation Agency. But the police chief’s most successful step was the formation of a special team headed by DCP Ashok Chand. Though the team failed to contain the terror acts, it did solve the Jama Masjid firing case apart from solving many other important cases, including the recent arrest of two Babbar Khalsa terrorists.
